Fireworks will light up the sky over Ottawa and Gatineau Saturday night when a spectacle billed as the 'largest display of summer fireworks in the country' arrives to brighten things up. During these turbulent times, there’s nothing better than some fun to pass the time, with Casino Lac-Leamy hosting a real feast for the eyes for Gatineau residents. The casino’s Sound of Light production entered into a collaboration with the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival to deliver a pure spectacle of sounds, lights and images.

The organisation of the festival has been in the pipeline for quite some time. It has aimed to surpass spectators’ expectations and add some thrill and excitement to the lives of the local population, weary of the ongoing pandemic imposed restrictions.

A Sky Full of Colour

The fireworks spectacle took place at 9 pm on 15 August and lasted for a riveting 15 minutes, with breath-taking designs, shapes and colours illuminating the evening sky. The casino’s very own Sound of Light troupe has had plenty of experience with hosting events like this and is led by veteran fireworks technicians with numerous events under their belt.

The light show took place in partnership with Royal Pyrotechnie, a Quebec based firm that specialises in sky illumination. To date, this has been the largest fireworks display this summer in Canada, usually drawing on numerous spectators eager to see the light marvel. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 related restrictions, the Gatineau residents were requested to observe the show from the comfort of their homes.

The Show Must Go On

Casino Lac-Leamy has made the show free of charge for all interested. The fireworks display was launched from eight previously undisclosed locations across the city, making it visible across all areas, allowing each spectator to view the show from their balcony or backyard.

To notify everyone that the show is about to start, three practice rounds were set off at 8h45 pm, thus revealing each of the secret locations across Gatineau. To complete the experience, a local radio station, 94.9 Rouge FM, was broadcasting synchronised music arrangements that went in tandem with the fireworks.

For all those that tuned in, a breath-taking list of melodies accompanied the perfectly coordinated show in the sky above them. Additionally, all those who were not in a position to view the live event could access the Casino Lac-Leamy Facebook page and follow the live stream of the entire event from there.
